Riverside Care and Rehabilitation Center celebrated “1950s Day” on Elvis’ birthday. The residents requested an Elvis impersonator to perform at Riverside Care. So we took it from there and went on Facebook to locate an impersonator who agreed to perform for our residents.
We planned a 1950s theme and dressed up in 50s attire. We served burgers and fries for lunch like the good ol’ soda shop days. We set up a soda shop table with soda shop cupcakes, coke floats and other treats.
The residents enjoyed this event, and we don’t know if we have ever saw them have this much fun. Elvis closed out the show by singing to our 108-year-old resident with “Love Me Tender.” This resident doesn’t participate in many activities, but she lit up with excitement when Elvis visited.
We are already planning a Hawaiian Luau for the spring or summertime with Elvis as our special guest.
